Technical support for the evolution of complex systems

As part of the relaunch of ticket machines in a high-traffic environment, existing systems were technically evolved and modernized. The scope ranged from hardware-near development to the integration of modern, service-based backend components.

Ticket machines are mission-critical systems. They must operate reliably, comply with strict technical standards, and remain stable under real-world operating conditions.


Starting point

The existing system landscape included both hardware-near components and distributed backend services. As part of the further development, new functionality had to be integrated and existing components modernized, without compromising the stability of the overall system.

Specific requirements resulted from:

  • tight coupling to specialized hardware
  • high demands on availability and reliability
  • integration into existing operational and security concepts

Our role

brixware supported the project as a technical partner within the existing implementation team.

The focus was on:

  • development of hardware-near components and drivers
  • implementation and integration of backend services
  • support in architectural and technology decisions
  • ensuring technical consistency across system boundaries

The work was carried out in close coordination with internal stakeholders and aimed at selectively extending and evolving existing structures.


Collaboration

The collaboration was characterized by direct integration into the existing team and clearly defined technical responsibilities.

Rather than isolated task delivery, the focus was on jointly solving complex technical challenges. Decisions were made transparently and consistently embedded into the existing system landscape.


Result

The ticket machines were technically modernized and functionally extended without affecting reliability during ongoing operation.

Through the close coupling of hardware-near development and service-oriented backend components, a robust technical foundation was established for continued operation and future evolution.
